About the WJCL

The Wisconsin branch of the largest Classicist organization in the world, the National Junior Classical League, provides a sound basis for the expansion of our horizons and perspectives, intellectually, socially, and aesthetically through the study of ancient Greece and Rome. The WJCL is composed of numerous schools from around the state, all united through their love of the Classics. The organization runs smoothly due to the efforts of the tireless Latin teachers, the dedicated state chairs and sponsors, and the monthly meetings held by the state board, elected every year at the Wisconsin State Convention. WJCL scholars firmly believe that the best part of the organization is the State Convention, and the National Convention, held in a different location every year. At these gatherings, Latin students compete in academic and art contests, Certamen, and spirit competitions, where Cheese heads are often worn. The WJCL affirms the JCL experience develops responsibility, fosters brotherhood, promotes enthusiasm, encourages competition, inspires dedication and enriches our total growth.
